The Chief Protocol of the State of Georgia, Abby Turano, announced that the Italian Republic has named Miller & Martin attorney Ryan Kurtz Honorary Consul General of Italy in Atlanta.

Italy is one of 63 nations to operate a consulate office in the city. The purpose of the office is to develop economic, commercial, scientific and cultural relations between Italy and Atlanta, and to safeguard the interests of Italy and its citizens traveling or residing in the consular district. The Atlanta Consular Office covers the State of Georgia and reports to the Consulate General of Italy located in Miami, Florida.

Kurtz has worked closely with the Italian Consular Office in Atlanta for a number of years. In 2013, he organized an event for the Italian Ambassador to the United States with the help of the then-Honorary Consul General of Italy and the Italian Trade Commission. He has also participated in several trade missions to Italy with the Italian Trade Commission, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, and the Metro Atlanta Chamber. Kurtz gained experience in Italian business and law while working as a visiting attorney with the Italian law firm Gianni, Origoni, Grippo & Partners in Rome, Italy.

Chris Parker, Managing Member of Miller & Martin's Atlanta office, said this announcement reflects the growing international presence of Kurtz and the firm. "Our reputation in the international market continues to grow as many of our attorneys have developed strong relationships with international businesses that recognize the growth opportunities available in the Southeast. Ryan's appointment as Consul is a testament to his commitment to strengthening our business ties and attracting global industry to this region."

As a Member with Miller & Martin, Kurtz concentrates his practice in the areas of business and commercial dispute resolution, including international litigation and arbitration. He has also advised a number of Italian and foreign-owned businesses as general counsel.

In 2010, Kurtz was selected to the list of Georgia Best® Lawyer's Rising Stars. Kurtz received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1996 and his Bachelor of Arts from the College of Charleston in 1993.
