Miller & Martin Takes Lead in Adopting New Model for Firm's Pro Bono Efforts

September 26, 2014

Miller & Martin PLLC is taking the lead as the first firm in Chattanooga to adopt the Pillar Law Firm Model for its pro bono efforts within the region. As the Pro Bono Firm of the Year for 2013, Miller & Martin was approached by the Access to Justice Commission and the Tennessee Supreme Court to initiate the Pillar Law Firm Model in Chattanooga in working with Legal Aid of East Tennessee.

"We are excited to have Miller & Martin's support by serving as the inaugural Chattanooga law firm to embrace this new model. This model will serve as a way of streamlining our work in coordinating pro bono cases with the right firms for those in need in our area," said Charlie McDaniel, Pro Bono Project Director at Legal Aid of East Tennessee.

The Pillar Law Firm Model offers firms the opportunity to select a particular area of law to focus their pro bono efforts upon, and Legal Aid of East Tennessee will only refer cases that fall within their designated area of practice. While many of Miller & Martin attorneys already volunteer in a variety of other areas of law and will continue to do so, this initiative will be in addition to those types of cases and provide another opportunity for attorneys to get involved. Miller & Martin has selected Housing law as its designated area of practice.

"It is an honor for our firm to be able to serve our community in this capacity, and I am looking forward to continuing our work alongside Legal Aid of East Tennessee in this focused and effective way," said Marcy Eason, Member at Miller & Martin PLLC.

The firm's next steps in implementing this new model will be to host an internal lunch workshop to be held on Friday, October 18, at 12:00 p.m. During this workshop, Mr. McDaniel will provide Miller & Martin attorneys with a more in-depth look at how the Pillar Law Firm Model will function and will provide training in the firm's chosen area of Housing law.
