Mark your calendars for May 8–12, 2018. Those are the dates for the National Safety Stand-down to Prevent Falls in Construction voluntary event. OSHA is partnering with the National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health, the National Occupational Research Agenda, the National Safety Council, as well as State OSHA Plans and a number of other entities to hold the National Safety Stand-down to Prevent Falls in Construction campaign. For everyone in the construction industry, it is well known that in addition to being one of OSHA’s most cited items during inspections for construction, falls commonly result in severe injuries and even fatalities.

The National Safety Stand-down is just one way to bring recognition to the topic of falls in construction and more importantly, a way to bring additional attention to education and training regarding fall protection.

Anyone can participate and OSHA invites participating entities to share their story on social media using the hashtag #StandDown4Safety and even request a certificate of participation.

Having dealt with a number of cases where falls lead to significant injuries and fatalities, awareness, education and training should be every day and the National Safety Stand-down is just one way to highlight a construction company’s continuing efforts for safety.
