Doug Berry Receives Officer's Cross of the German Order of Merit

The Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Detlev Ruenger, presented the Officer's Cross of the German Order of Merit to Miller & Martin attorney, Doug Berry, who is the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Tennessee. The award was presented at a reception at The University Club of Nashville on Thursday, January 26, 2017.

The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany is the only federal decoration of Germany. It was instituted in 1951 by Federal President Theodor Heuss, and has been awarded to over 200,000 individuals in total, both Germans and foreigners. The main fields honored are social, philanthropic and church work "away from the public eye"; efforts to improve employment prospects as well as create jobs and training opportunities for young people; Entrepreneurial achievement in boosting long-term growth and employment particularly in regions with structural problems; outstanding scientific achievement generating new momentum or resulting in innovations and inventions with strong future potential; efforts to foster peaceful interaction and mutual tolerance between different religions and cultures; and contributions to enhancing Germany's standing abroad and its relations with its European neighbors.
