Miller & Martin Hosts SETLAW Luncheon: Story of Tennessee and the Ratification of the 19th Amendment

February 03, 2016

Miller & Martin PLLC hosted a special luncheon presentation for the Southeast Tennessee Lawyers Association for Women (SETLAW). The event provided attendees the opportunity to learn the significant story regarding the state of Tennessee and the roll 5 incredibly strong women played in the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

Pat Pierce and Paula Casey, renowned speakers on this subject, shared the account of how the Volunteer state became known as "The Perfect 36," the final state needed to secure the rights of all U.S. women to vote. This historic event, boasted as the greatest nonviolent revolution in our country, ended a 72-year struggle for American women. The Women's Suffrage Monument, Inc. is a board set up to raise awareness and knowledge of this important history. Currently underway is a statewide effort to raise funds for a monument, to serve as a symbolic reminder to honor 5 remarkable suffragists who played a pivotal role impacting the lives of American women from that day forward.
