Topic Summary
Through this insightful discussion with Miller Center expert Dr. Barbara A. Perry, you'll experience the rare opportunity to eavesdrop on recordings and oral histories of presidents, advisors, and jurists as they shape the nation’s highest tribunal. After a brief introduction to the factors used to select justices throughout history, we'll explore the nominations from Presidents Lyndon Johnson through George W. Bush and the appointments of Fortas, Marshall, Rehnquist, Thomas, Roberts, and Alito.
During Q&A conversation, Dr. Perry can provide insights into both the historical and current law-making interplay between the executive and judicial branches from her own research and experiences serving as a U.S. Supreme Court fellow and on the board of trustees of the Supreme Court Historical Society.
