Miller & Martin attorney Tom Harrold Honored by the German-American Cultural Foundation with a Lifetime Award

Miller & Martin attorney, Tom Harrold, was honored by the German-American Cultural Foundation with a lifetime award for his business and cultural contributions.  For more than forty years, Athens native Tom Harrold has been selling Georgia to the world, visiting 60+ countries. Mr. Harrold helped establish the German American Chamber in Atlanta in 1978, organized the Unification Conference in 2003 for former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl in Atlanta, and organized the 60th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift. He also assisted with the organization of the Delta inaugural flights to Stuttgart, Munich and Dusseldorf. In 2009, Mr. Harrold was awarded the Cross of Merit by Horst Köhler, former President of Germany. He has a particular interest in introducing international companies to rural Georgia working on 44 projects from Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Norway, France, Taiwan, Japan and China, which have created thousands of new jobs. In 1987, he was one of the original founders of the World Law Group, which now consists of more than 61 law firms in 93 countries. Mr. Harrold served as President of the World Law Group from 1995-1997 and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Japan America Society, the Georgia Chamber, the Rusk Center, the Board of Visitors at the UGA Law School, the Carter Center and is a Honorary Lifetime Board Member of the German American Chamber.

Eike Jordan, chair of the board of trustees of the Halle Foundation, presented the award to Mr. Harrold.  Mr. Jordan came to Atlanta in 1978 to start up the German-American Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Harrold and Mr. Jordan met then and became friends.  Mr. Jordan shared, “Tom’s profound knowledge of world history and his ability to understand cultural differences make him an ideal international ambassador for Georgia and the Southeast, and a great representative of the United States.” 

Peter Halpaus, the founder and chair of International Freight Forwarders Inc. and Martin Richenhagen, the recently retired chairman, CEO and president of AGCO Corp., the Duluth-based Fortune 500 tractor and agricultural equipment manufacture were also honored with lifetime awards.
